Age appropriate clothes earn moms respect
August 9, 2010
As a beauty advisor and stylist for mommies of Detroit, I can honestly say I have seen it all, from 1980s half shirts to the current trend of jeggings. Let’s just say there are certain moms out there who need to be aware of a few solid fashion rules. true religion clothing
The first rule is, NEVER show your mid-drift. Moms, please leave that trend back with striped knee high socks and short satin gym shorts. Never show your mid-drift unless you’re at the pool wearing a bathing suit catching some rays. ed hardy shoes
Second, don’t wear jeans that are too tight. Whether you’re a size 2 or 12, if your tummy is hanging over the sides then your jeans are too tight! Jeans that are too tight leave you looking chunkier than you actually are. It’s important to wear the right size clothing. If you follow this rule, you’ll feel comfortable in your jeans and look better, too.
Third, don’t over-accessorize. Once you’re ready for your night out, take one last look in the mirror and take off one of your accessories. Make your outfit pop with a great print shoe, scarf or piece of jewelry such as a ring or chunky necklace. But please, don’t wear all of these items at once. Always remember: Less is better. ghd mk4
Fourth, never wear a miniskirt if you are over the age of 35. I have seen some gorgeous mommies out there who work their butts off in the gym and look fabulous. Still, even if you’re in great shape and are a small size, please don’t wear a mini to show off your goods. There is a certain age at which we, as respected women, have to leave a little for the imagination. It’s better to set a classy example of ourselves instead of a cheap one. As we get older and become head of our families, a member of the school’s PTA and career women, we must choose clothing that gain’s respect while expressing ourselves at the same time. If you’re showing too much skin, especially in the business world, your colleagues are less likely to take you seriously.
Lastly, leave the younger trends for the teenagers. Ed Hardy trucker hats and sweatpants with “Juicy” written on the bottom in sequins are for a much younger crowd.
When dressing age appropriate, you have the opportunity to find your own sense of style. Fashion is meant to be fun and express who you are. When you’re a mom who tries to dress too young, instead of looking great, you’ll look like someone you’re not, giving off the wrong message to your kids and the people around you. We should be known for our loving hearts and great personalities, not for the inappropriate skirt we wore last weekend.
